Fati
Sudan, Waha Irrigation Project
Fati is the investor who invests in cultivation of Amar's land. He lives in Madhi and apart from the 5 feddan in the family he manages the cultivation of around 60 acres of land which he rents from other people in the village.
Fati employs Westerners (common denominator to indicate migrants from Nigeria, Chad and Darfur and their descendants) who live in Gezira and stay in the field during the cultivation season.
Since the collapse of financing from Yasir’s Cooperative people mostly grow vegetables and sorghum for the local market. Fati’s cash to pay labour and inputs and his farming machinery enable him to make good money from investing: In 2015 his income ranged from 2500 SDG/acre for sorghum to 5000 SDG/acre for eggplant. At the same time he makes good money from the rising brick industry in Kutrnanj with his lorry, truck and loader.
